   FROM THE PROFESSOR:
“Students are to build a granny flat and choose a characteristic of the granny to reflect in the building. The flat is to be located in Tuscan, Arizona. Building aspects include the being built of adobe, stucco, a metal roof, and with a concrete foundation, no air-conditioning, no building into the earth, and a slope of 10 degrees. Designs should account for mental health and basic needs of the resident as well as the sun and natural ventilation. In addition students should consider what an older person would require in their living space.”

I chose a granny who liked to garden. There is a plenty of space to accomodate visitation by grand children who live in their own home on the property. The U shape of the home allows for the more private space to be on one side and semi-public space to be on the other side. The bathroom is distinguished by a curtain to prevent any access issues in case of an emergency. Although granny is still currently fit, a ramp is attached to the front porch in case she needs assistance in the future.
